Emerging from Bali’s vibrant music scene, Modjorido, a powerhouse quartet, is making waves with their explosive debut single, Revolt. Released on November 21, 2020, under Pohon Tua Creatorium (PTC), this track marks a pivotal moment for the band as they step into the spotlight of Indonesia’s rock landscape.
With its electrifying energy and rebellious spirit, Revolt captures the essence of rock and the ethos of breaking boundaries. “This song represents evolution—a revival of rock’s raw, untamed energy,” shared frontman Rico Mahesi. “It’s a reminder of what makes this genre so powerful.”
Meet Modjorido: A Band Forged in Bali’s Music Scene
The name Modjorido is a composite of its members’ names: MO from guitarist Momo Wawengkang, JO from drummer Joshua Putra, RI from lead vocalist Rico Mahesi, and DO from bassist Donee Sura. While the band itself is relatively new, the musicians behind it are anything but inexperienced.
Hailing from Bali’s bar and cafe circuits in hotspots like Canggu, Kuta, and Seminyak, the members of Modjorido have long been a staple of the region’s vibrant nightlife. Their collective experience has given them a tight-knit synergy, which is evident in their music.
“Each of us has spent years honing our craft in Bali’s live music scene,” said bassist Donee Sura. “We’ve played countless gigs, and now, with Modjorido, we’re channeling all of that experience into something bigger.”
Joining Forces with Pohon Tua Creatorium
The turning point for Modjorido came when they joined forces with Pohon Tua Creatorium, a label known for nurturing groundbreaking talent. “Before joining PTC, we often struggled with direction and structure,” admitted Donee. “We were used to a more casual approach, which made it hard to meet deadlines or create a cohesive vision.”
Under the guidance of PTC’s founder, Dadang SH Pranoto (known as Pohon Tua), and sound engineer Gunawan Cipta (Mas Gun), Modjorido found the discipline and clarity they needed to thrive. “Working with PTC has been eye-opening,” Donee continued. “They’ve helped us define our identity and refine our approach to music production.”
Crafting Revolt
The creation of Revolt was an intense, two-month process that began with rigorous workshops led by Dadang. “The workshop sessions were crucial,” Donee recalled. “They helped us dig deep into the song’s structure, mood, and message, ensuring every detail aligned with our vision.”
The song itself is a testament to Modjorido’s commitment to authenticity. Its raw guitar riffs, pounding drums, and impassioned vocals convey a message of rebellion and renewal. “Revolt embodies the spirit of evolution,” Rico explained. “It’s about challenging the status quo and reigniting the fire of rock music.”
Looking Ahead: A Music Video and New Singles
With Revolt now available on all major streaming platforms, Modjorido is setting their sights on a music video, scheduled for production in December 2020. “We’re excited to bring Revolt to life visually,” said Donee. “It’s going to be a dynamic representation of the song’s energy and message.”
But the band isn’t stopping there. Modjorido has plans to release a follow-up single in February 2021. “We’re just getting started,” Rico said. “Our goal is to keep the momentum going and build a strong connection with our audience.”
The Spirit of Rock Lives On
For Modjorido, Revolt is more than just a debut single—it’s a statement. It’s a declaration of their intent to reignite the rock genre in Indonesia and inspire a new generation of fans.
“Rock has always been about passion, energy, and authenticity,” said Rico. “With Revolt, we want to remind people why this genre matters and why it still has so much to say.”
As Modjorido prepares to take the next steps in their journey, one thing is clear: they’re not just playing music; they’re creating a movement.
